Why I Decided to Work with Crimson

Applying to US universities as an international student can be daunting. When I started the process, I was the first child in my family to go through it, my parents had both studied in Mexico, and my high school focused on Canadian universities. I didn’t have the advantage of knowing everything about the process and was nervous about having to figure it all out and being successful in my applications. However, during a Model UN conference in New York, I luckily found Crimson Education.

From the moment I talked to them at that information booth, I knew that their program could help me figure out everything about the admissions process and increase my chances of being accepted by my dream schools. Three years after working with them and multiple acceptance letters later, that remains true, but I got so much more from it than I had initially imagined. So let me share why I decided to work with Crimson and the unexpected pluses I found thereafter.

The first – and probably most significant – reason, why I decided to work with Crimson, was to relieve much of the stress during the application process. If you haven’t gone through it, application time can be one of the most stressful times in your high school career. You have a whole application to complete, a personal statement to write to express your personality, and multiple essays for each school – all on top of your regular schoolwork. Besides, when you don’t know many people that have gone through this process it’s hard to know what you have to do and how to do it right.

Crimson relieved many of these worries. They supported me from the beginning, letting me know every single thing I’d have to do throughout the process and setting a clear timeline for each component. This allowed me to have enough time to work on each portion while vanishing my stress of not knowing what to do. My advisors helped me plan out a path for academics, standardized testing, and my extracurricular capstone project (a golf tournament I never thought I’d plan) to set me up for success in admissions. They then helped me review every single essay, organize my extracurricular activities, and ensure my narrative was being conveyed efficiently throughout my application. I didn’t have to worry about not showing my true self in the application or submitting essays that would be disliked by admissions officers. When I submitted my application, I was sure that my work reached its full potential.

The next upside is closely related to the previous one, and that is having a group of knowledgeable coaches to guide you. Every tutor I had throughout my years at Crimson had been through the admissions process themselves and had been successful getting into top-tier universities – so they knew what to do and how to do it right. Being tutored by such people made me feel more confident in the work that I was producing and truly helped me improve its quality. These coaches were not only intelligent and helpful, but they were genuinely great people. You will build relationships with many of them and meetings will not feel solely academic. My coaches were enthusiastic about what was going on in my life and willing to offer advice when I needed it. Some even became like mentors that could share what they had learned when they went through the process and become great resources for any questions I had about admissions or university life.

The people I encountered throughout my time at Crimson not only helped me perfect my application but opened my eyes to things I hadn’t even considered. Since all of them had gone through university life, they could tell me things that I should consider when searching for schools where I’d like to study – and not only look at the big brand name. If it wasn’t for my tutors, I never would’ve studied at the university where I am now. When I first started working with Crimson, I mostly knew (and wanted to study at) the big schools like the Ivy Leagues, MIT, and Stanford. My coaches showed me other amazing options to consider on all target levels, with different settings, academic level, social life, and more. Eventually, that’s how I found many of the universities I decided to apply to, and that’s how I found the school where I eventually enrolled.

Now, you might be thinking, there is one big reason why you’re hesitating working with Crimson – the price tag. While I cannot tell you if you should or can pay for it, I can tell you that it pays off. It helped me perfect my application, allowed me to meet amazing people, discover new schools, and, in the end, it eventually paid itself off with the scholarships I received. I’m sure you’ll take advantage of the many other things Crimson has to offer, and eventually, your investment will pay dividends.

I can’t say you must absolutely work with Crimson, but I can tell you I do not regret doing so. There are many reasons why I decided to work with Crimson – less stressful admissions period, having knowledgeable mentors to guide you and form relationships with, and discovering new things I hadn’t even considered – but each person has their list and places different importance on each aspect. I suggest you strongly consider a consulting plan with Crimson and I hope to see you embark on this journey that will help you grow as a person and be a successful student in the admissions process.
