UVA has had another record-breaking year in terms of applicants, with about 64,463 applicants to Class of 2029 across its three application stages.
UVA’s acceptance rate decreased slightly to 15.3%. Of the 64,463 students who applied to the UVA Class of 2029, the university extended admission offers to 9,907 students.
The dean of UVA published the overall acceptance rate data. While these figures are technically unofficial, they're still a relatively accurate estimate.
This year, UVA received 64,463 applications to the Class of 2029, a huge increase from last year's 58,995, as well as the 56,439 received in 2023, 50,962 applications received in 2022 and 48,011 applications received in 2021.
Out of these applications, 9,907 received offers, yielding an overall acceptance rate of 15.37%.

While Early Action is by far UVA’s most popular application stage, but there was still a noticeable increase in regular decision applications.
For the regular decision cycle, more than 17,568 students applied to UVA of which 1,651 got accepted at an acceptance rate of about 9.3%.
The acceptance rate for regular decision dropped from 11.7% last year to 9.3% this year, continuing a trend of declining RD acceptance rates.

Both the early decision and early action cycles have higher acceptance rates than regular decision
In fact, while the acceptance rate for regular decisions has continuously decreased over the years, the acceptance rate for early applications increased yet again this year.
Out of the 46,856 early applicants to Class of 2029 (EA and ED combined), UVA accepted 8,028 students, with an early acceptance rate of 17.1%, a decrease from last year’s 18.2%.

In general, out-of-state applicants tend to face stiffer competition than in-state applicants. UVA’s out-of-state acceptance rate (12.5%) remains significantly lower than its in-state acceptance rate (23%).
Both acceptance rates decreased this year. The out-of-state acceptance rate slightly decreased from last year’s 13%, while the in-state acceptance rate decreased to 23% from last year's 25.5%.
