Why isn't this category just called Extracurricular questions?

Aren’t leadership and extracurricular basically the same thing?

Hi Sarah,

Great question! There is often confusion between these two; however, when colleges look at applications, they are seen as two very different things.

Leadership is about running teams, events, or conferences. It is about managing people and delegation. It focuses on people management, delegation and organisation. Some examples of this might be running events, starting clubs or even a business.

Extracurricular is seen as joining and competing in established organisations. Often this is about gaining valuable experiences, skills, winning awards, competitions and internships.

While there are often overlaps between these two categories, this is a general way to differentiate leadership and extracurricular activities in respect to a college application.
