The overall acceptance rate for the Class of 2028 at the University of Georgia is 37%. 43,090 students applied for admissions in the Fall of 2024, marking a 2.5% decrease in overall applicants compared to last year. Nonetheless, the University notched a record-setting number of applicants in the Early Action round, highlighting students' growing interest in the potential benefit of a less competitive admission rate.
University of Georgia Class of 2028 Acceptance Rate
For the Class of 2028, the University of Georgia has announced offering admission to 15,900 students out of 43,090 applicants, yielding an overall acceptance rate of 36.8%, roughly the same as last year.
School officials noted that the applicant cohort for the Fall of 2024 was geographically diverse and academically very strong.
While the total number of applicants slid slightly, down about 2.5% compared to last year, in-state applications rose by about 7% and Early Action (EA) applications ticked up about 3%, setting an all-time record for UGA EA admissions.
The consistently robust application numbers reflect positively on the school's popularity. And, while the institution favors applicants residing in Georgia, the Class of 2028 is still geographically diverse, with admits from 49 states across the US and 41 countries around the world. In addition, 21.6% of overall admits are first generation students.

UGA's Class of 2028 Regular Decision Acceptance Rate
For the Regular Decision (RD) cycle, 34,090 students applied to UGA, with about 6,900 students receiving offers of admission. As a result, the UGA acceptance rate for Regular Decision (RD) applicants for the Fall of 2024 was about 42%. Last year's RD round involved 17,700 applicants, with 7,947 admitted, yielding a slightly higher RD acceptance rate of 44.8%.

UGA's Class of 2028 Early Action Acceptance Rate
UGA received a record-setting 26,760 Early Action (EA) applicants, up about 3% compared to last year but reflecting a staggering 24% increase compared to two years ago.
For the Class of 2028, 9,000 were admitted, but with acceptances skewed toward in-state applicants. According to UGA admissions, the EA acceptance rate for out-of-state students was 25%, compared to 50% for in-state applicants.

UGA's Out-of-State Acceptance Rate
According to UGA officials, the school's goal is to enroll a class composed of roughly 80% of in-state students. Therefore, it's not surprising that the acceptance rate statistics that UGA provided for the Class of 2028 EA round revealed a much more competitive out-of-state admissions rate, compared to in-state. Based on the number of EA students admitted, we project that about 60% of EA admits were in-state students and 40% out-of-state.
The breakdown of in-state vs. out-of-state figures for overall admission rates has not been provided by UGA, but the school's stated goal of enrolling a class composed of around 80% in-state students points to an admissions process that clearly favors in-state students over out-of-state applicants.
UGA's Overall Admissions Trends
Overall, the University of Georgia has seen interest in the university increasing.
EA round applications have seen the biggest jump, going from 21,500 applicants for the Class of 2026 to 26,760 EA applicants this year.
The overall number of applicants has increased about 9% over two years, from 39,615 to 43,090.
The overall acceptance rate has gone down slightly, by about 5.5% over the same two-year span.

And, while UGA has not provided a full breakdown of statistics, it's important to keep in mind that the admissions process overall will typically yield a significantly higher acceptance rate for in-state applicants.
Who Gets Into UGA?
According to UGA officials, students who got into UGA for the Fall of 2024 had some impressive academic profiles.
- GPA: Among applicants in the mid range, the average GPA was 4.19
- SAT/ACT Scores: Students in the mid range scored between 1280–1470 on the SAT and between 29–34 on the ACT
- Academic Rigor: UGA officials look at AP/IB/DE courses as well as the overall core classes over four years. For the class of 2028 officials announced that "a majority [of admits] took the most rigorous coursework possible at their school, and almost all students took classes that were either very demanding or the most demanding in their course selection."
