What are some of the benefits of this degree structure? To these people go on to run hospitals or something of this nature? When is it worth the extra year and more tuition $$$ after the 4 year of medical school to warrant this?
Though I did not complete an MD/MBA myself, my friends who have pursued this option are drawn to the cross-disciplinary approach to both business and medicine. People with this degree enter a range of activities, including running a hospital/clinic, launching a medical device, etc. Overall, the graduates of MD/MBA programs are the best equipped to run large healthcare organizations, addressing health issues through their leadership capacity in running such organizations combined with a fine-tuned understanding of healthcare service delivery.
