What's Next for Applicants?
Princeton has admitted the first round of applicants to the Class of 2029. Princeton shares less admissions data now, but we estimate that between 5,000 and 6,000 students now apply under SCEA (single-choice early action) to Princeton each year, resulting in an Early Action acceptance rate ranging between 11.5–15%. Keep reading to get the latest from Crimson Education COO Arkesh Patel on Princeton admissions data and trends as the Class of 2029 begins to take shape.
Princeton University continues to set the standard for academic excellence, with its admissions process remaining one of the most competitive in the world. This year, Princeton has announced its Early Action results for the Class of 2029, with Regular Decision results to follow in March 2029. Below is an overview of this year's acceptance statistics and key trends.

This year, Princeton has announced its Early Action results for the Class of 2029, with Regular Decision results to follow on Ivy Day, March 26, 2025.
Princeton discontinued the practice of releasing detailed admissions data back in 2021.
Over the past four years, however, Princeton’s Early Action acceptance rate has ranged between 11–15%, with the school receiving between 5,000–6,000 EA applications and accepting between 650–850 students during the EA round.
Princeton’s Single-Choice Early Action (SCEA) admissions application deadline was November 1st. Princeton’s SCEA policy prohibits applicants from applying to other early programs at private institutions nationwide.
The students Princeton just admitted have until May 1 to decide if they’ll accept their offers — the same deadline given to Regular Decision students notified in late March.
Princeton’s undergraduate enrollment is anticipated to reach about 5,700 students this year, a new high. The Class of 2029 corresponds to the fourth year of a four-year plan that increases undergraduate enrollment by an additional 500 students.
Several other Ivy League schools have only recently reinstated testing requirements, but Princeton remains test optional — along with Columbia, UPenn, and for now, Cornell.
The changes in test policy at several Ivies may increase demand at the test-optional Ivies this application year.
The Regular Decision results for the Class of 2029 will be released on Ivy Day, March 26th, 2025. We estimated Princeton's Regular Decision acceptance rate for the Class of 2028 was an ultra-competitive 3.3%.
Over the past four years Princeton's RD acceptance rate has hovered between 3–4%. Based on these past ranges, we anticipate another challenging admissions cycle this year.
Estimated Regular Decision Figures from Last Year (Class of 2028):
Princeton Remains Test Optional: Whereas Dartmouth, Harvard, Brown, and Yale are reinstating testing requirements, Princeton and the other Ivies remain test optional. It’s certainly possible the elimination of test-optional admissions at several big-name peers this year increases demand at the Ivies that remain test optional.
