Which universities are they for and what expenses/experiences do they cover?
Hi George!
The Girdlers’ Scholarship and the Myers Scholarship are both scholarships to the University of Cambridge.
The Girdlers’ Scholarship is for one high performing New Zealand student each year to study at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. The scholarship covers tuition fees, maintenance (rent and college bills) and a living stipend, so that the student has some spending money. It does not however cover travel costs such as flights from New Zealand to the UK, but Corpus Christi offers 39-week leases which allow students to stay in college over the Christmas and Lent holidays, and this is covered by the scholarship. You can find more information about the Girdlers’ Scholarship here: http://www.universitiesnz.ac.nz/scholarships/girdlers
The Sir Douglas Myers Scholarship is for one high performing New Zealand student each year to study at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. It’s essentially the same as the Girdlers’ Scholarship in terms of covering tuition and living expenses, but not travel. The Myers Scholarship however is not available to students wishing to study Medicine or Law. You can find more information about the Myers Scholarship here: http://myersscholarship.ac.nz
There is also the Peter Windle Scholarship to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, which is awarded every third year to a New Zealand student, preferably from the South Island. The expenses covered are the same as the Girdlers’ Scholarship, and is allocated to students who apply for the Girdlers’ Scholarship. For more info see the Corpus Christi College, Cambridge website: http://www.corpus.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/international-applicants/
Hope this answered your questions!
