If I have a great GPA, is it possible to get accepted into an Ivy without Leadership or good EC’s?
Hi there, thanks for your question and long story short, not in the US.
Top overseas universities receive tens of thousands of applications each year, yet only a small selection of these applicants are successful. In this competitive environment, strong academic performance is not always enough to gain admission. In order to stand out and distinguish your application from that of other applicants, you must be able to show that you are a well-rounded individual with strong leadership abilities and extracurricular involvement.
To give some more perspective, in the last 5 years, Stanford turned down 69% of applicants with a perfect SAT score. Why? they’re looking for more an a robot who can churn out answers. American universities want to see a applicant who is the whole package.
Hope this helped!
